Athens & Acropolis Walking Tour

My wife and I had a few days stop over in Athens on our way back from the beautiful greek islands. My wife hasnt stepped foot out of Australia so I was wanting to organise a tour for her to get to see the "sights".  My wife summed it up superbly when the tour was over, "that was awesome!" the guide was very knowledgable, answered and asked the group questions and gave us plenty of time to explore the sites as we stopped along the way. My only tip is either to bring a hat or buy one of the cheapy umbrellas from the street vendors!:) With everything that is going on in Greece at the moment its a shame to hear that tourists are trying to avoid going, Greece is a beautiful place and everyone that even contemplates going should, its amazing! the people are super friendly and very helpful, everyone is still upbeat despite what is going on in... so head to Greece and take this tour! you will not be dissappointed!

Kostas was our guide and he was very informative and gave detailed explanations at all the sights. He not only talked about the history of these sights but also present day Athens situation. He was fabulous and really added to our experience. We booked both the Acropolis Tour + the Archaeological Museum. I was surprised that my husband and I were the only two people on the museum tour from our Acropolis Tour. I believe this was because most of the other folks came from cruise ships and had time constraints but I highly recommend doing both.

We were in Athens on a cruise for only one day. We were going to take the metro from Piraeus to Athens to go to Acropolis. Someone on Cruise Critic mentioned that they were doing the Athens Walking Tour. I looked it up and thought that it would be better to do a tour with explanation of what we were seeing rather than just going on our own. I contacted them (it was already around 11pm in Athens) and got an immediate response . We wanted to do the Acropolis and Archaeology Museum tour, but unfortunately we were in Athens on a Monday and the museum is closed. We opted for the Acropolis tour. Our tour guide was Sofia and she was excellent. We started with exhibits right in the metro station where they display artifacts of what was found when the metro was being built. The Parliament building is just a few steps away and we were there for the changing of the guards. We made our way to the Acropolis stopping at various interesting sights along the way. Sofia made the tour very interesting and we were definitely glad we didn't do it on our own. The tour was over at the top of Acropolis about 3 hrs later. We then had about 3 hours on our own before we met up with the cab to take us back to the port. The tour was a wonderful intro to Athens. I recommend it very highly.

We only had 2 nights in Athens before heading off on mid afternoon to Pireaus for our cruise. We enjoy walking - as opposed to sitting on a bus - and have done walking tours in other cities. We thought we'd do a tour a day, so Day 1 headed off on the historic tour to see the Acropolis and all of those fantastic historic sites and ruins. Day 2 headed off on the Food Tour before heading back to the hotel for our shuttle to the cruise boat. Really enjoyed the experience of both of these, but we thought next time, we'd do the other way around. Mainly due to all the food places we visited we'd have loved to have gone back to again the following day. We realised (despite advice to the contrary) that 3 days/2 nights wasn't near long enough in Athens and must go back for more. As an aside, these tours also cater for people who are in Athens/Pireas for the day on a cruise and it is easy access to get to the meeting points and good timings to allow cruise-boat crowd. As a recent cruiser, far more economical too than the offers the ships give you...plus allows you to walk off some cruise-boat kilos!
