Athens Food Walking Tour
Athens Food Walking Tour
- 3.5 hours food walking tour of Athens led by an expert guide
- Taste local Greek delicacies & discover the heritage of Greek cuisine
- Walking experience through bakeries and sweet shops
- Visit the famous food market of Athens
- Small group tours with maximum 16 participants
Each food walking tour includes mouth watering food tastings from the various specialty and food shops that we will pass along the way on a different “off-the-beaten-path” gastronomical route around central Athens. A tour you surely do not want to miss while you are in Athens.
We meet at the Korai street where the tour begins. An array of colors sights and sounds engulf the visitor and, at once, activate the senses. Along the way you will walk the city’s quaint spice street, browse through mom-and-pop specialty shops selling local wine, olive oil, cheese or olives, and sample what’s behind the glass counters at family-run delicatessens. The aromas of fresh, out-of-the-oven, savory pies, the tempting displays of Greek pastries and sips of Greece’s strong and tasteful spirits round out the food tour. We will expertly guide and explain things to you en route and provide valuable insight not only about the unique and intricate culinary heritage of the Greeks but also of the cuisine we have all come to know as Mediterranean.

Meeting point: The meeting point is outside the Panepistimio metro station at the Korai pedestrian walkway in front of the Starbucks. If coming by metro, follow the "Korai" exit signs. Please be at the meeting point by 9:15 am.
Vegeterian-Friendly: Athens Food Tour is vegetarian-friendly as only one or two stops involve meat tastings where we would be happy to provide alternative sampling when requested.
We stopped at about 10 different locations and sampled local foods that were known to me as a tourist from the USA.
Each food had a story behind it, so as well as cuisine we got a little history lesson as well.
Our tour guide, Despina, answered all of our questions, pointed out places of interest and let us shop at each stop if we were so inclined.
Although to price may seem high, it is definitely worth doing early on in your visit to Athens as you will learn about local food spots that charge local prices which will save money in the end.
This was a very worthwhile 3 1/2 hours and I bought several tasty items to bring back to the states!
We allotted about 2.5 hours for the tour but our group was small (4 of us) and Amalia was willing to spend extra time with us so we ended up spending about 4 hours altogether - which was wonderful.
Even with 100+ heat, the tour was great. We moved at a nice pace that didn't tax anyone in the group and spent plenty of time inside restaurants and markets so the temps didn't really matter.
wanted to do something different. We decided on the Athens Food Tour ~ I
would highly recommend it to any person interested in getting off the 'beaten tourist path'!
Our tour guide and the company owner, was absolutely engaging and genuine - she connected
with us more as a friend than as a guide. The tour itself was unlike any other my husband and I have
taken (which includes great private tours in cities including Rome, San Francisco, Victoria, Istanbul, NYC,
Cairo)
The places we visited (not touristy) highlighted some of the country's best food and included delicious
items to try - high quality and generous portions.
Truly a one of a kind food experience!
