The main natural port of Athens and one of the largest in Europe is the Port of Piraeus servicing about 20 million passengers annually. Piraeus is placed among the first ten ports in container traffic in Europe and the top container port in Eastern Mediterranean.
One of the most picturesque harbors in Piraeus with an intense character and full of crowded restaurants and small bars is Mikrolimano.
The city houses a lot of museums such us the Archaeological Museum of Pireaus, the Hellenic Maritime Museum, the Historical Museum, the Panos Aravantinos Decor Museum, the Georgios Averof Museum Ship and the Museum of Electric Railways. The Municipal Art Gallery and the Municipal Library, one of the largest in Greece, are also prominent within the culture of Piraeus.
The Municipal Theater of city has been the center of the arts in Piraeus, hosting a variety of cultural events including theater, dance and music events. The open air Veakeio Theater in Kastella is also a very popular destination during the summer.
