The area of Plaka which is located under the slopes of Acropolis is one of the most attractive districts of Athens.

Museums like the children's museum, the museum of Folk Art, the museum of Greek popular instruments and monuments like the Lysicrates monument are near by.

Archaeological areas like the Greek and the Roman agora, Hadrian's Library, “Aerides” another name for a monument honouring the winds, and other Roman monuments built mostly by the Roman emperor Hadrian worth also a visit.

The Atallos Stoa, which is situated in the area of Thiseio in Plaka, hosts a great collection of several artifacts that have been found in the area of the ancient Agora. Under the north east slope of the Acropolis, the first university of Athens, named Kapodistrian, is located.

As a main tourist attraction of Athens, Plaka has a lot of shops, mainly selling souvenirs as well as furs, leather clothes and fine handmade jewellery, which stay open until late at night seven days a week.
