  • Visit the Byzantine Monastery & its small museum
  • Enjoy an optional boat trip to the famous local sea caves
  • Visit Achilleion Palace
  • See the traditional old village of Gastouri
Activity Info

The coach follows the road leading out of town; soon you are found in the beautiful dense Corfiot countryside, driving through olive groves interspersed with pine and cypress trees, vineyards and fields carpeted with wild flowers and shrubs.

The bay of Paleokastritsa is one of the most famous locations on the island, much celebrated for its unique natural beauty, known as the “Capri of Greece”. You visit the Byzantine Monastery of the Virgin and its small museum, housing priceless Byzantine icons and church relics.

After your visit at the monastery, you will have some free time in Paleokastritsa. You can take the chance to have a short boat trip to the famous local sea caves.

Leaving Paleokastritsa, your coach takes you via the Ropa Valley to the traditional old village of Gastouri for a visit to the Achilleion Palace. You visit the rooms of the Palace open to visitors, offering a glimpse into the life of the “Sad Empress” as Sissy was commonly known, as well as its beautiful gardens with spectacular views over Corfu Town and the sea. Filled with exotic flowers and adorned with classical statues of Ancient Greek mythological figures, the gardens give evidence of Empress Elisabeth’s fondness of Ancient Greek History and Mythology.

Achilleon Palace was the highlight of our day in Corfu. The trip there and back was scenic. If we had only stayed in Corfu Town, would not have gotten the flavor of the island. The Palace was a little run down in spots, but still beautiful with stunning views of the island and the sea below. The gardens were beautiful also. The visit took us back to another time and we were happy to linger a while. The cost was higher compare to our ship's excursion rates but ir worth since we coulde see more on our own!.

This is one of my favorite places on Corfu. The palace build by Sissi is an amazing place. I especially liked the garden because of the amazing view and the statue of Achilles.
